Oregano is an essential herb in Spanish, Mexican and Italian cuisine. Great for seasoning Beef and Lamb, stews, spaghetti sauce, pizza, chili, barbecue sauce and cooked cheese dishes. Oregano is also widely used in Mediterranean and Argentinian food.
Oregano is native to the Mediterranean region and southwestern Eurasia. The oregano plant is related to marjoram and is sometimes called wild marjoram. Oregano became popular in the U.S. after World War II when soldiers returning from Europe brought home a taste for Italian cuisine and the "pizza herb".
