This herb can be used as a seasoning and a condiment for foods, it can also be brewed as a herbal tea to help encourage perspiration. Safflower has been used for cooking and dying fabric since ancient times. Traces of safflower have been found in cloth from tombs in Egypt.
Safflower is usually found in dry areas that only receive seasonal rainfall. It is one of the oldest known herbs cultivated by humanity. Today, most of the worlds safflower is grown in Kazakhstan. Safflower is sometimes used as a substitute for saffron, which is a far more expensive spice.
