Rose hips, also called rose haw or rose hep, are the fruit of the rose plant. They are used in herbal teas and foods like jams, jellies, wine, mead and marmalade. You can eat the raw fruit if you avoid ingesting the hairs in the center. Rose hip soup is very popular dish in Sweden. Rose hips are also used to make "cockta", which is the national soft drink of Slovenia. In the Austro-Hungarian region of Europe it is used to make a fruit brandy which is called palinka.
