Use this herb to season potatoes and carrots, stews, marinades, corned beef, poached fish, soups and sauces. Bay leaves have a strong aroma and have been used to flavor foods since ancient times. For best results, add the whole leaf to the dish while cooking, then remove before serving.
Bay Leaf is also known as Bay Laurel. The herbal aroma has a hint of floral fragrance and is similar to that of oregano and thyme. The essential oils from the laurel plant are used to make some perfumes. The compounds found in the leaves can repel some insects and also help prevent the growth of mold.
