The rooibos plant is native to South Africa and the name literally means "red bush". When used to make herbal tea it is also called bush tea or redbush tea. The plants are usually grown in a mountainous area of South Africa called Cederburg. The rooibos plant was not able to be cultivated commercially until the 1930's. A botanist, Dr. Pieter Le Fras Nortier developed the method of cultivation responsible for the current production of this wonderful herbal tea.
