Cloves are used to flavor fruit, meats, curries, marinades, desserts and even beverages. They are an important ingredient in pumpkin pie spice and speculoos spice. Cloves are especially popular in Middle Eastern, African and Asian cuisine. Cloves have also been used in traditional medicine since ancient times. There is evidence of people using this herb dating all the way back to 1721 BC.
Cloves are originally from Indonesia, but are now produced in many countries with a similar climate. Cloves are made by picking the flower buds and drying them before they open. The clove plant is able to be harvested year round.
